How To Perform a Stock Check for a Complex Assembly in Cetec ERP
For manufacturers working with multi-level assemblies, it’s not always obvious how much inventory you actually have available to build with. Top-level assemblies often contain multiple subassemblies, and each of those may have their own nested components. Cetec ERP provides two practical tools to help: the Build Estimate and the BOM Overview. Here’s how to use them.
Step 1: Open the Assembly Record
From your part list or search, click on the assembly part you need to review. Cetec ERP will open the part record in a new tab.
On the Part Record screen, you’ll see these options:
- Build Estimate
- BOM Overview

Step 2: Review the Build Estimate
The Build Estimate gives you a snapshot of what you can build right now. It shows:
- Current inventory of all direct parts and subassemblies
- Buildable quantity based on available stock
- Estimates for shortages that might hold you back
This is the quickest way to see whether you can start production on an assembly immediately.
Step 3: Drill Down with the BOM Overview
If you need to go deeper - especially when subassemblies contain their own components - head to the BOM Overview tab.
Here you’ll be able to see:
- Every component across all levels of the BOM (including those buried within subassemblies)
- QOH (Quantity on Hand) values for each part
- A complete picture of material availability before scheduling or kitting

This view is essential when planning ahead for large builds or when managing complex assemblies with many dependencies.
Why This Matters
Performing stock checks at both the assembly and component level helps manufacturers avoid costly surprises once a work order is released. Instead of discovering shortages mid-build, production managers can identify material gaps early and adjust purchasing patterns or production scheduling accordingly.
By using both the Build Estimate and the BOM Overview, Cetec ERP users gain clarity at two levels:
- A high-level view of whether an assembly can be built today
- A detailed view of all material positions across the BOM
