Shelf life is important to track in all kinds of manufacturing. It is tracked at the lot level (in bins) as Expiration Date.
- Shelf life can be set and maintained in a few different ways:
- Set a Shelf Life (in weeks) on the part record edit screen. This defaults the expiration date at receipt.
- Expiration date can be set on the receiving screen during receipt. Receiving can set the expiration date to match the receiving documentation for that lot/heat/batch.
- Expiration date can be set or overridden in the bin.
You can configure how expiration dates drive material planning and usage:
- You can change how the bins show up on the waterfall. There are a few config settings to change.
- If you want bins to lock when they are expired, set the config setting Lock Bins When Expired to 1. You can then look at any bins that are expired and they should be locked on the part record.
- If you want expired bins to show up on the waterfall, set the config setting Waterfall - Don’t Remove Expired Bin Qty to 1. The expired bins will no longer be removed from the projected qty on hand.
